An introduction to the musical traditions behind today’s popular music

This is the subtitle of the cassette, released in the year 2000 in Guinea Conakry, which combines the songs and music of 8 traditional music groups from the ethnic groups of the Region of Guinea Forestier. And very traditional, these songs and music are, with polyphonies, polyrhythms played by instruments as little known as the Tulous, monotonous cross-trump, the Guun, drum-xylophone, or the Bélé Guei that one could to call the Kora’s ancestor…

Rare, these musics and songs are also, because mostly related to the events that punctuate the life of these animist ethnic groups that are the toma, Guerzé, Manons ethnic group… But it is also rare because these recordings are already twenty years old and these traditions are struggling to be perpetuated.

Historical document and musical nugget like the previous album Kwi Bamba – the orchestra of Gama Berema already made by Frédéric Migeon, the cassette, 100% Guinea Forestière is re-edited, augmented by 2 tracks, on vinyl format on the label Ouch! Records distributed by Silène Records, and digitally on the label Cristal Records (mark 10H10) distributed by Believe Digital.

Released October 11, 2019
